ELwood's Honeycreek EbonyAngel CGC TDIPictured at age 7Ebony passed away quietly on Nov. 16th 2008. She gave no indication that she was ill. I found her that evening after returning from work. She was true to her breed and left this word as silent as she guarded her property. She will be greatly missed by us and all that knew her.Rest Well My Sweet Ole Girl

 EBONY; MY DEAR SWEET GIANT:

She is the last of my Mastiffs...all the rest have gone to wait for me at the Rainbow Bridge.  I began raising and breeding mastiffs in the early 1980's.

Ebony is everthing that one would want in a mastiff. She is a GIANT and along with that huge body comes a heart and soul that is almost as big as she is. She has excellent conformation and was retired from the show ring with 10 points (1 major and several BOB wins)...She hated showing and wanted to do what Mastiffs do best...Silently Guard....just ask the UPS guy( who obviously can't read a beware of Dog sign) and found himself pinned up against my front door with 190 lbs of dog staring him down. He said...I saw the sign but didn't see the dog..so I figured it was safe. He was all the way to the door before she came out of her hiding spot in the bushes of the front yard...never made a sound until she knew she had him cornered. It's probably a good thing they wear brown uniforms because I'm pretty sure he needed to change his shorts after that incident. They don't call them silent guards for nothing.

Ebony was a very smart and rambuncious pup...she learned to open gates at a young age and also turn on the water faucet so she could play in the water.

She loved to play and was an expert at the body slam. One winter day she caught me off guard and with a well placed body slam sent me to the ground.

Unfortunately my left foot stayed in place and I dislocated my left hip.  This was the beginning of the end of me raising mastiffs. One year later I suffered a dislocated shoulder after I failed to let go of the flexi lead when Ebony went after a racoon. When 190 lbs of dog is going full tilt and they hit then of a flexi some thing has to give and it wasn't the flexi. It was after this incident that my husband asked me to please consider a smaller breed. I was hesitant at first but agreed that he was probably right and I was too old to handle these big dogs.

So I started my search...and that's how I ended up with boxers....one they like mastiffs are a head breed...two I like the energy factor..mastiffs are well to be polite LAZY creatures...three portable....3 boxers can fit in the space of 1 mastiff and I can pick them up. There are many other factors that brought me to the boxer...but I can tell you this..I'll never be without one as long as I can manage them.

Ebony is as of this writing now 9yrs old...she has slowed down  and I actually miss those days of the rambuncious pup that she was in her youth. She has worked as a Therapy dog for the last several years..and has enjoyed it..but alas she has had to retire from this due to age related arthritis.

She spends her time..keeping the boxers in line and watching over her world from her post on the porch....ever the guard dog. but with a heart and loving soul that is matched by none before her.
